Artist’s Statement

I aspire to make art using both the head and the heart; I want to ground my work in rich ideas and intellectual tradition, but I want to balance that with a sense of intuition and emotion.  A part of the role of art for me is to evoke a sense of wonder, to ask questions that may not even have answers, to see and help others to see in new ways.  Some of the recurring themes that I explore in my work include layers, cyclic transformation, and illusion.  I search for connections between different ideas as I work to see how they intersect to create new narratives.  My work also often involves some dialogue with artists from art history.
