The Color Black, In the Heart of the Block
Communities carry their own quiet history. Look closely around you and notice the stories hiding in the things we and others can overlook. For this show, artists were encouraged to transform the ordinary into something extraordinary, drawing inspiration from Black communities in Missouri’s everyday life.
How do these individuals and moments connect us to memory, place, and imagination? Centered on the lived experience “In the Heart of the Block” reflects the soul of rural and inner-city neighborhoods. From porch conversations to street celebrations, from nuance to triumph, this theme explores how people shape places and how place shapes people.
