Around and About
Three Columbia stories told through art
Around and About is an exploration of what’s around us and what that says about us. We all live in Columbia, but Columbia does not mean the same thing to all of us. Adin grew up here, left for college, and has returned for one year before moving to Seattle. Ginny has lived and worked in Columbia almost her entire life. Ni Kang moved here from China just three years ago. We do not seek to capture some essential essence of Columbia; our Columbia may be unrecognizable to you, or even to each other. What an artist decides to create tells a story, whether intentional or not, and that creation can’t help but be impacted by the life an artist lives and where they live that life. We hope to present our Columbia, one you can both relate to and learn from.
Ginny Trauth, Ni Kang, and Adin Shoyer Aberbach are visual artists housed at Orr Street Studios. A native of Columbia, Ginny Gahl Trauth works across multiple media, including printmaking, watercolor, acrylic, and ink. She has shown work at Orr Street Studios, Columbia Art League, and the Boone County Art Show. She has also licensed work to the City of Columbia’s public art program. She’s been a studio artist at Orr Street Studios since 2025. Ni Kang’s artistic journey began with traditional Chinese shuǐ mò huà (水墨画, “water and ink painting”), a discipline she has practiced since childhood. Born and raised in Wuhan, she studied at the Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, where she earned her BFA in Chinese traditional painting. She moved to Columbia, Missouri in 2022, where the unfamiliar landscape has encouraged her to expand her artistic approach while remaining rooted in tradition. She teaches water and ink classes at Artlandish and Orr Street Studios, where she also maintains a studio. In June, she will participate in the Chicago Gold Coast Art Fair and the Des Moines Art Fair. Adin Shoyer Aberbach is a painter working with oil paint, charcoal, and painted paper collage, both in the studio and en plein air. Adin studied painting at Swarthmore College and the Mount Gretna School of Art. He has shown his work in group shows in Pennsylvania and Missouri. He had his debut solo exhibition, Paint and Paper, at Artlandish Gallery in February 2026.
