Artist in Residence
Amani Zaire
Painting, fibers, and ceramics
Amani Zaire is an emerging artist currently attending the University of Missouri, where she is
pursing her BFA in painting. Working across a variety of mediums, her practice focuses on the
ways that material usage can shift and expand a body of work. Her work speaks to the
complexities of beings, particularly as they relate to race in gender, within flawed social systems.
Through her process, she investiates personal genealogical tracings, and the effects of
manufactured social injustices across generations. Her practice considers the way histories,
both personal and collective, are inherited and altered through time and material.
Having grown up in the area, Amani Zaire is returning to Orr Street as a second year artist
within the AIR program.
